What time is my surgery?
- One business day before your surgery date, around 1:00PM, we will email or call you to confirm the time of your surgery.
How long is my surgery?
- The surgery time is depending on the type of surgery and other factors, for example, size of the lesion, and volume of the breast. Most breast surgeries without breast reconstruction would take about 30-90 minutes to perform. It would be best to discuss with your surgeon at the time of consultation about the details of your surgery.
What kind of Anesthesia will I receive for my surgery?
- The anesthesiologist on the day of surgery will discuss with you in details about the type of anesthesia that is suitable to your case. If you need to be assessed by the Pre-Admission Clinic, the anesthesiologist will discuss with you about the options of anesthesia. Most breast surgeries at Mount Saint Joseph Hospital are performed with Regional Anesthesia (or nerve block) as part of the anesthesia if you are a suitable candidate.
What time will I be discharged?
- The time of discharge after surgery is variable depending on the individual and the type of surgery. It will usually take at least 1 hour. After surgery, you will be monitored in the Post-Anesthetic Care Unit then in the Surgical Day Care Unit until you are medically stable, your pain and nausea are controlled, and you are able to walk.
